Pronator quadratus – a forgotten muscle: a case report
نویسندگان
چکیده
The pronator quadratus (PQ) is a muscle that has been virtually forgotten since it was first documented four centuries ago. Little, if any, functional syndromes have been attributed to the PQ since that time nor have any thorough investigations been conducted with respect to it’s anatomy. In this case report, an instance of PQ myofascial pain syndrome is described as well as the examination that lead to the diagnosis. (JCCA 2003; 47(1):17–20)

Flexor Pollicis Longus Tendon Rupture After Volar Plating of a Distal Radius Fracture: Pronator Quadratus Plate Coverage May Not Adequately Protect Tendons
OBJECTIVE The senior author previously reported a case of rupture of the flexor policis longus tendon after volar plating of a distal radius fracture. We hypothesized that restoration of the pronator quadratus to its native position after plating might prevent this problem. METHODS The authors report a new case of irritation of the flexor policis longus 2.5 years after volar plating of a dist...
متن کاملClinical study of the Pronator Quadratus muscle: anatomical features and feasibility of Pronator-Sparing Surgery
BACKGROUND No clinical data for the relationship of pronator quadratus (PQ) muscle to distal radius had been reported. The aim of this study was to investigate the anatomical features of the PQ muscle related to plate osteosynthesis for distal radius fractures in clinical cases. The feasibility of PQ muscle sparing surgery was investigated as well. METHODS Fifty two distal radius fractures (2...
متن کاملEpithelioid Hemangioendothelioma of the Distal Radius: A Case Report
Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is a rare vascular tumor with cytologic behavior between angiosarcoma and hemangioma. We present the case of a 58-year-old male with primary epithelioid hemangioendothelioma of the distal radius measuring 6.2 × 5 cm with extension into the pronator quadratus and brachioradialis muscles. We discuss our approach to performing a limb-sparing resection combined with...
متن کاملAnomalous pronator quadratus muscle : a case report
The pronator quadratus (PQ) muscle is one of the deeper muscle of the front of the forearm which originates from the oblique ridge in the lower part of the anterior surface of the shaft of the ulna and its adjoining medial area. The muscle inserts into the lower part of the anterior surface of the radius. In the present study, we observed an anomalous PQ muscles on both sides of a 52yearold mal...
متن کاملThe pronator quadratus muscle flap.
Traumatic injuries to the distal forearm present a challenging problem for soft tissue coverage. There is a need for a local flap to provide a vascularized soft tissue bed. This article demonstrates the anatomic basis that enables the pronator quadratus muscle potentially to fulfill these needs.
